Immersive Navigation
Immersive Navigation is designed to revolutionize the driving experience by offering a sharper, colorful 3D visualization. This feature highlights surrounding buildings and essential details, ensuring drivers stay on course. The 3D perspective illustrates the buildings, overpasses, and landscape around the user, with critical road information automatically emphasized to facilitate timely maneuvers.
Google’s AI, Gemini, is pivotal to this update, improving the spatial awareness of routes. The feature incorporates intelligent zooms and transparent structures to assist drivers in preparing for challenging turns and lane shifts ahead of time. Voice guidance has also seen improvements, becoming more natural and clear, providing alternative routes in the event of traffic disruptions, road work, or incidents.
Immersive Navigation is accessible on qualifying Android and iOS devices in the U.S., with intentions to broaden availability in the upcoming months, including compatibility with CarPlay, Android Auto, and vehicles with Google integrated.
Ask Maps
Ask Maps brings a conversational interface to the app, functioning as a handy AI companion. Users can ask Ask Maps for suggestions on where to work out or enjoy an evening with friends. The replies are tailored, utilizing locations users have looked up or bookmarked in Maps, along with a personalized map for better visualization.
The Ask Maps feature is being rolled out this week in the U.S. on Android and iOS, with a desktop version anticipated shortly.
