Essential information

  • Integration with Google Maps provides turn-by-turn navigation instantly on chosen Garmin smartwatches.
  • This integration facilitates hands-free navigation through on-screen instructions and gentle vibrations for guidance directly on the wrist.
  • Users can keep track of their fitness metrics while navigating and sync their activity information with other Android health applications through Health Connect.

On Tuesday (July 8), Garmin introduced a new feature for its selected smartwatches designed to enable users to navigate effortlessly. Google Maps is now available on Garmin smartwatches via the company’s Connect IQ Store.

This newest feature allows users to receive directions on their wrist using turn-by-turn guidance on certain Garmin devices, such as the Venu, Forerunner, Vivoactive, and Fenix series. Those wanting to test the functionality can set their destination using Google Maps on their paired Android smartphone, and the app will subsequently send alerts to their Garmin smartwatch — providing guidance on when to turn while walking, running, or cycling, for instance.
