The update aims to clarify if a contact utilizes RCS, which provides enhanced features like reactions and read receipts, or conventional SMS/MMS. This distinction assists users in determining how to share media, such as transmitting high-quality videos through RCS instead of MMS. The update, included in the Google Messages app beta version 20250527_01_RC00, is being gradually deployed and is currently limited to beta testers.
