Betting links on world events began appearing next to reputable news organizations. Polymarket bets emerged in Google News alongside real news pieces, but those links have now disappeared. Google confirmed that these results should not have appeared and were removed as an error. The links directed users to markets betting on specific news events. Before their removal, searches like “will ships transit the strait” included Polymarket bets on ship numbers in the Strait of Hormuz, below reliable sources. There was speculation about possible Google integration with Polymarket, as both Polymarket and Kalshi pursue partnerships with journalists and news platforms. It’s unknown how or when Polymarket appeared in Google News, but reports surfaced on social media as early as January. Google previously partnered with Kalshi and Polymarket for Google Finance, though any relation between this and the News results remains unclear. More information has been requested from Google.
