Google revealed on Thursday that “Live Translate,” its Google Translate feature with AI that provides real-time translations through headphones, is now available on iOS and more countries.
This expansion brings the feature to iOS and Android in the U.S., India, Mexico, Germany, Spain, France, Nigeria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, Bangladesh, and Thailand. It was previously limited to Android users in the U.S., India, and Mexico.
The function converts headphones into real-time, one-way translation devices. Utilizing Google’s Gemini AI, it retains each speaker’s tone, emphasis, and cadence, making conversations easier to follow, according to Google.
The company suggests the feature for activities like understanding dinnertime chats with relatives speaking other languages or comprehending train announcements abroad.
It works with any headphones and supports over 70 languages.
To access, users must open the Google Translate app, tap “Live Translate,” then connect their headphones.
This development coincides with Google’s global expansion of its AI-powdered conversational search feature, Search Live, to all AI Mode-supported languages and regions. Now accessible in over 200 countries and territories, it was initially available only in the U.S. and India.
Search Live, launched in July 2025, enables users to use their phone camera for real-time help, facilitating conversations using visual context from the feed. To use it, users open the Google app on Android or iOS and tap the Live icon under the Search bar.
