Google Unveils Pixel 10 Pro XL’s Unique 25W Wireless Charging Capability

The Pixel 10 series has brought forth a notable enhancement with the addition of native Qi2 wireless charging. However, a distinct variation in charging speeds exists among the different models. The Pixel 10 Pro accommodates quicker wireless charging at 25W (Qi2.2), while the more compact Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro are restricted to 15W (Qi2). This move by Google is largely motivated by concerns over heat management, as wireless charging can produce considerable heat, which may harm the battery and decrease its lifespan. By capping the charging speed, Google intends to prolong battery life, pledging up to seven years of support for these devices.

The variation in charging speeds is further shaped by the thermal efficiency and cooling capabilities of the devices. The Pixel 10 incorporates a graphene cooling system, while the Pro variants take advantage of a vapor chamber, which tends to be more proficient in heat management. This enables the Pixel 10 Pro XL, featuring its larger vapor chamber, to accommodate quicker charging speeds.

Even with the differences in charging speeds, Google guarantees that the overall Qi2 experience remains uniform across the Pixel 10 range. Users can still reap the advantages of magnetic wireless chargers and MagSafe accessories without the necessity for extra cases or stickers. This strategy reflects Google’s dedication to providing sustained support and safeguarding battery health over time.
