Google Upgrading Voice Features in Search, Leak Discloses

An APK analysis of the application suggested that Google might allow users to select the voice for Search.

What you should know:

– Google appears to be bringing four new voices to its Search application, as observed in the Beta iteration of the app.
– These new voices are reportedly akin to those in Google’s upcoming AI Mode.
– It seems the company is broadening the voice selection functionality to additional products, instead of confining it to Gemini Live.

Google is seemingly intensifying its initiatives to enhance its existing offerings — it’s incorporating personalized voice choices into Gemini Live or AI Mode. A recent APK analysis revealed that users will have the option to select from various voice choices even in Google Search (as initially noted by Android Authority).

As per the outlet, they detected that while using voice search on AI Mode within the Search beta application, it presented users with four distinct voices to select. Google appears to have assigned them “space-themed” titles: Cosmo, Neso, Terra, and Cassini — each of these voices adds a unique flair and character for the user.

Though these voices were originally confined to AI Mode on Search, it looks like the technology giant intends to broaden their availability to the standard voice search feature on the Google app too.

“In our most recent APK breakdown of the Google app (version 16.20.48.sa.arm64 beta), we discovered that you’ll also hear these same four voices when conducting a voice search via the mic icon,” the website detailed.

This can be observed when utilizing the quick access search features directly from the phone’s home screen (if it’s a Pixel or utilizing the Google app’s widget) or within the Google app itself.

Users may soon have a fresh array of voices for spoken search results, rather than just the singular female voice that the app has maintained for several years. Once this feature is launched, users will be able to customize their voice search by selecting from the four voice options.

This choice will be available in the settings of the Google app, within the “Voice” section, where a “Choose Voice” list will be displayed. Although there are only four voice options for search, it seems Google is reserving a good number of these unique voices for Gemini Live, as users can select from a list of 10 voices (Vega, Ursa, Pegasus, Nova, Eclipse, Lyra, Orbit, Dipper, Capella, and Orion).

During Google I/O, the company unveiled a plethora of AI features, including making AI Mode accessible to all in the U.S. It also rendered Gemini Live with camera and screen sharing free and available to all on Android and iOS.
