On Tuesday, Google revealed that it is broadening access to Personal Intelligence, its feature enabling the AI assistant to customize its interactions by integrating across the Google ecosystem, including Gmail and Google Photos, to all U.S. users. Previously exclusive to paid users, Personal Intelligence is now accessible in AI Mode in Search, the Gemini app, and Gemini in Chrome.
Google stated in a blog post, “Whether you’re searching for a sneaker brand you bought before or organizing a family vacation using your hotel confirmations and previous travel photos, Personal Intelligence helps you find exactly what you need without all the context.”
Personal Intelligence is initially disabled, allowing users to decide if and when to link their Google apps to these services.
If you’re at a tire shop unsure of your car’s tire size, any AI chatbot can assist. However, with Personal Intelligence, Gemini can propose all-weather tires after identifying road-trip photos in your Google Photos.
Planning a vacation and exploring activities and dining options that appeal to the whole family? Personal Intelligence in AI Mode can reference your Gmail hotel bookings and past travel pictures in Google Photos to craft a personalized itinerary. It may even suggest an old-timey ice cream parlor inspired by the numerous ice cream selfies in Google Photos.
In another scenario, you might seek a new bag to complement your recent shoe purchase. With Personal Intelligence in Chrome, expect recommendations aligned with your latest purchases and favored brands and styles, including details like hardware that complements gold shoes.
Google clarifies that Gemini doesn’t directly learn from your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. Instead, it trains on specified prompts in Gemini or AI Mode along with the model’s answers.
Personal Intelligence is now available to U.S. users in AI Mode in Search and is starting to roll out to Gemini app and Gemini in Chrome for free-tier users.
Google indicates these features are limited to personal Google accounts and not accessible to Workspace business, enterprise, or education users.
