Superhuman has announced that it will revamp the Expert Review feature, offering experts the option to participate in future AI initiatives.
Superhuman has disabled Grammarly’s “expert review” AI feature, which attributed edit suggestions to real writers, including The Verge’s editor-in-chief and staff. “After careful consideration, we have decided to disable Expert Review as we reimagine the feature to be more useful for users, while giving experts real control over their representation,” stated Ailian Gan, director of product management at Superhuman. “We clearly missed the mark and will do things differently moving forward.”
Previously, Superhuman opened an opt-out email inbox for writers, acknowledging it wasn’t sufficient. CEO Shishir Mehrotra apologized and shared future plans on LinkedIn, expressing a vision where “experts choose to participate, shape their knowledge representation, and control their business model.”
Superhuman launched the Grammarly agent Expert Review in August, using publicly available data from third-party LLMs to provide writing suggestions influenced by notable work. Recent criticism from experts about misrepresentations prompted reflection and changes. Mehrotra emphasized Superhuman’s mission of integrating AI into daily work and aims to collaborate with experts to expand the AI platform, offering unique opportunities akin to Grammarly’s support.
