IDC Evaluates Google’s Pixel 10 Line and Its ‘AI-First’ Approach

Analysts’ Insights on Google’s Latest Devices, Wearables, and the Formation of a Gemini Ecosystem Across Its Offerings

Key points to note:
– IDC analysts assert that the recent Google event highlights the company’s transition to an “AI-first” approach.
– A significant edge for Google is its capability to thoroughly embed its new Gemini AI across all devices, including smartphones and the new Pixel Watch 4.
– In spite of persistent obstacles in capturing market share, Google’s unwavering commitment to hardware is being positively acknowledged by consumers and retailers.

Made by Google 2025 concluded this week, and while we are enjoying these new gadgets, IDC’s analysts have been closely observing Google’s every action. From the tech titan’s Pixel strategy to AI embrace and market strategy, IDC indicates that this latest product launch sheds light on Google establishing a presence in a “premium-centric smartphone environment.”

To begin with, the Pixel 10 series introduced a four-device collection this year, akin to its earlier versions, consisting of the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. At first glance, Google appears to have retained its familiar rounded-corner design for its devices, featuring a polished aluminum frame, which highlights the substantial camera bar on the rear side.

In communication with Android Central, Jitesh Ubrani, research manager at IDC, mentioned that this year’s Made by Google was less focused on hardware and “more a glimpse into the future, highlighting the latest AI features from Gemini that are first accessible on Pixel devices.”

This year’s event truly stood out; it deviated from the traditional format of Google executives discussing the devices or their specifications, opting instead to emphasize how you can “expect more from your phone.”

Android Central’s Senior Editor Jerry Hildenbrand also remarked that “Google has transitioned to an AI-first approach especially in hardware.” This shift suggests that Google may now be engineering its phones to primarily function as platforms for AI, moving from merely merging AI capabilities into existing hardware.

Google is redefining its devices by elevating AI integration. Even though it maintained the same camera specifications as last year on the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL, it appears to be compensating for this with customized AI features.

“New AI functionalities, such as “Camera Coach,” “Conversational Editing,” and “Magic Cue,” guarantee that you possess access to one of the most groundbreaking smartphones on the market,” stated Anthony Scarsella, Research Director at IDC.

It’s not only the phones that received an AI enhancement this year; the Pixel Watch 4 has also been introduced, a wearable that delivers “AI on your wrist.” While it resembles last year’s version, Google has made some modifications to elevate the smartwatch’s premium feel. It has notably included a domed display beneath the glass. The curve is minimal but discernible.

“It’s evidently designed to highlight the new Wear OS 6 Material 3 Expressive UI while bringing content as close to the glass as feasible,” remarked Android Central’s managing editor Derrek Lee during his hands-on with the Pixel Watch 4.

Aside from hardware updates, IDC’s Research Director Ramon Llamas believes that “the true advancement is the personal health coach powered by Gemini, which creates user-specific fitness routines and offers immediate feedback.”

Lastly, while Google continues to advance in hardware, IDC perceives that the company’s latest devices are competitive regarding both design and pricing, keeping in line with the industry’s trajectory.

“Utilizing Google’s AI innovations through Gemini across all products/ecosystems provides a substantial advantage. Despite hurdles in enlarging device market share, Google’s steadfastness and commitment to hardware are resonating well with channels and consumers,” stated Ryan Reith, Group Vice President, Devices, IDC.
