Instagram has rolled out a specific application for Google TV, following its initial trials on Fire TV devices. This new application brings Instagram Reels and images to the living room, enabling users to experience content on a larger display. The application arranges Reels into curated, interest-oriented channels that can be browsed with a TV remote. Users can engage with the content by liking, commenting, and sharing directly from their television. Presently, the service is restricted to the U.S.
Instagram’s transition to Google TV signifies its first major venture into large-screen devices, having earlier concentrated on smartphones and smaller displays. The application enables users to scroll through and view Reels, akin to the experience on a mobile device. It customizes feeds based on user preferences, encompassing categories like sports, culinary arts, travel, and humor.
Users can maneuver through the application using their smart TV remote, with features such as auto-play available. Instagram intends to incorporate support for utilizing a smartphone as a remote for the Google TV application. The application can be downloaded from the Google Play Store in the U.S., with the possibility of extending to other regions in the future.
Once installed, users can log in using their smartphone, accommodating up to five accounts on a single Google TV device. This permits multiple family members to access their profiles and view their feeds. Instagram also recommends establishing a separate account specifically for TV viewing if so desired.
