Xthings’ innovative Ulticam security systems employ Wi-Fi HaLow for remote camera setups reaching up to 0.6 miles. Unveiled at CES 2026, Xthings plans to introduce two wireless security camera kits in the second quarter, priced between $489.99 and $989.99. These cameras utilize the Wi-Fi HaLow (802.11ah) protocol to transmit video over 1,000 meters, even with obstacles like buildings, simplifying installation for large areas.

The Ulticam Long-Range Wireless AI Security Kit is the smaller option, containing four B25W outdoor cameras with 4MP resolution and a HaLow Wi-Fi Gateway. For larger setups, the Ulticam Wireless Long Range 8-Camera Bullet Kit + NVR features eight weatherproof 4MP outdoor cameras with mics and speakers, HaLow support, and optional wired ethernet. It also includes an NVR for local video recording and seven days of rolling cloud storage.

Unlike traditional infrared motion sensors, Ulticam’s HaLow systems use proprietary Always-On Video technology, maintaining a low power state to continuously capture video. AI analyzes the footage to identify triggers such as people, vehicles, animals, and incidents like fire and smoke, ensuring complete event recordings.

Wi-Fi HaLow, introduced a decade ago at CES 2016, offers an alternative to Bluetooth for low-power IoT devices, using sub-GHz signals that travel farther than traditional Wi-Fi. While useful for long-distance wireless camera installations without cables or cellular connections, the technology has been slow to gain traction. Despite other companies like Abode announcing HaLow-compatible devices, such as the Edge Camera, its release is still pending.
