Indie.io is launching a new subscription service called Indie Pass on April 13th, featuring over 70 games for $6.99 per month. The service aims to support independent game developers in publishing their titles, including those from the Echoes of the Plum Grove and Dark Deity series. Indie Pass will initially be available on PC.
While other platforms like Xbox Game Pass and Apple Arcade also focus on indie games, they haven’t seen the same success as TV or music streaming services, leading companies to adjust their strategies. Indie Pass, however, exclusively features indie games and aims to improve discoverability for smaller developers.
According to Jess Mitchell, director of growth at Indie.io, the games on Indie Pass will typically be solo player experiences made by small teams or individuals, prioritizing artistic satisfaction. The service won’t include massive multiplayer or live-service games.
Indie Pass games can be accessed via a dedicated launcher on PC, and new titles will be added regularly. Developers on the platform will earn revenue based on playtime, and the service doesn’t require exclusivity, allowing developers to sell their games elsewhere as well.
