IREX Unveils Advanced AI for Swift Fire and Smoke Detection to Safeguard Communities and Infrastructure

[Washington, DC – April 2, 2026] – IREX, known for developing ethical AI and intelligent video analytics operating across 10+ countries and over 300,000 cameras, announced a significant update to its FireTrack smoke and fire detection module. This update, not requiring extra hardware, extends FireTrack’s use to critical infrastructure like energy facilities and transportation hubs, public institutions including schools and hospitals, residential and commercial buildings, as well as parks and forests.

Built on IREX’s ethical AI platform, the new module processes visual data in 75–105 milliseconds—about 0.1 second—identifying danger nearly instantly. This improvement, along with enhanced accuracy and robustness in poor lighting or weather, facilitates prompt intervention by first responders, minimizing the risk of severe damage.

The updated model examines the progression of fire and smoke over time, differentiating real threats from visuals such as fog, headlights, or glare. This greatly reduces false alarms, enabling safety teams to concentrate on actual emergencies.

To enhance accuracy, IREX altered the system’s perception of fire and smoke. Rather than using traditional bounding boxes, the updated module employs segmentation, overlaying a color mask on precise areas where fire or smoke are detected: green for fire and red for smoke, better representing their irregular shapes. This technique enhances the system’s capability to pinpoint hazards accurately within the scene.

The updated FireTrack provides early warning much faster than conventional optical or heat-based detectors by analyzing live video feeds for visual smoke and fire signatures in real time.

According to Serge Smirnoff, Head of PR at IREX, “Because the IREX AI platform effortlessly integrates with existing camera networks, cities and organizations can enhance fire safety without needing specialized sensor hardware—just by linking their CCTV systems to IREX.” Each detection event includes a video snapshot for quick visual confirmation, allowing operators and first responders to promptly evaluate and address the situation.

Utilizing the current surveillance infrastructure, the new FireTrack model offers a cost-efficient route to extensive fire safety across built environments and natural landscapes.

Calvin Yadav, CEO of IREX, expressed, “The pride I feel for the IREX team today is immense. This FireTrack launch is a monumental achievement that reflects our core mission, to deploy ethical, intelligent AI to solve the world’s most critical problems,” adding, “We are strengthening the resilience of entire communities globally, proving that every hour of hard work put into responsibly designed artificial intelligence is actively saving lives long before a single alarm sounds.”
