The iconic JavaScript library jQuery has released version 4.0 alongside what seems to have been an enjoyable reunion party. The update isn’t drastically different but has fully adopted ESM and removed some legacy features.
The minified and gzipped version is now 27.6 kB, a decrease from the previous version 3.7.1, which was 30.5 kB. The slim build is 19.6 kB, providing a nice advantage for applications that heavily rely on jQuery and can upgrade to the new version.
Would you choose jQuery for a new application today? Probably not, as there are vanilla versions of most features it offers, which you should consider using directly to save space.
