Leaked Codenames for Google’s 2027 Pixel 12 Series Uncovered

Forget about the Pixel 10 and Pixel 11; our focus is now on the upcoming Pixel 12.

What you need to be aware of

– The Google Pixel 12 series is still a minimum of two years away, yet its codenames have already been disclosed.
– A source suggests the Google Pixel 12 series is codenamed after primates (and one folklore creature).
– The information leak indicates that Google intends to maintain the Pixel lineup largely unchanged through the 2027 model year.

Although the Google Pixel 9 series remains the latest and the Pixel 10 series is approaching, the anticipated codenames for the Pixel 12 series have already surfaced. According to Mystic Leaks on Telegram (via 9to5Google), there will be four smartphone models in the Pixel 12, all named after primates (with the exception of a folklore creature).

The leaker asserts that the base model Google Pixel 12 is codenamed Galago, the Pixel 12 Pro is codenamed Sasquatch, the Pixel 12 Pro XL is codenamed Silverback, and the Pixel 12 Pro Fold is known as Capuchin. The designations may partially reflect the respective sizes of the models.

For example, Galagos are recognized for their small stature, which supposedly corresponds to the smallest member of the Pixel 12 family, the base model. Conversely, silverback gorillas — the moniker used for the larger Pixel 12 Pro XL — are famed for standing five feet tall and typically weighing over 400 pounds.

Google has utilized animal families for Pixel codenames since the Pixel 6 series, which were named after birds. Since then, there have been references to cats, dogs, and reptiles. Allegedly, the Google Pixel 10 series is codenamed after horses, while the forthcoming Pixel 11 generation is rumored to be codenamed after bears. Now, Mystic Leaks suspects that the more distant Pixel 12 lineup will derive its names from primates.

Of course, these codenames are solely for internal development purposes. However, akin to traditional Android codenames, they provide entertaining means to monitor the advancements of future Google Pixel hardware. Currently, these references offer little insight into the company’s strategy for its 2027 lineup of flagship Android smartphones.

It does imply that Google aims to keep the Pixel lineup largely unchanged regarding offerings and sizes. If the company were to introduce a differently sized base model flagship, we might have encountered five leaked codenames instead of four. The same could be true if Google intended to launch a flip-style foldable to accompany the Google Pixel Fold series.

Nonetheless, it is always conceivable that Google has some surprises in store, so we can’t dismiss anything based solely on the rumored codenames.
