LineageOS 23 Brings Android 16 to More Than 100 Devices Despite Google’s Holdups

LineageOS 23, which is based on Android 16, has been made available for more than 100 devices; however, it misses features from QPR1 because of Google’s postponement in issuing the source code. This release encompasses features from the stable version of Android 16, including predictive back navigation, edge-to-edge screen display, enhanced app scaling, and compatibility with advanced protection devices. The camera application Aperture now offers support for Ultra HDR and RAW image capture, while the music application Twelve features Jellyfin integration and a shuffle mode. A new TV launcher, Catapult, has been introduced as an ad-free alternative. Despite some features like Material 3 Expressive and Desktop Mode being constrained due to absent QPR1 elements, the release prioritizes the modernization of core subsystems for greater flexibility. The LineageOS team is also gradually discontinuing support for the 21.x series while continuing to support the 22.2 branch for older devices.
