Meta has been attempting to break into the smartwatch market, and it appears that the company is giving “Project Milan” another chance. A recent report from DigiTimes Asia suggests that the firm might be working with a Chinese production company, Huaqin, which is reportedly its main manufacturing partner.
The report further mentions that although the project was paused in 2022, it may be unveiled sometime in September this year. Some theorize that the reason Meta postponed its smartwatch initiative was due to the prototype having a bottom camera, which “caused problems with another feature that translates nerve signals from the wrist into digital commands.”
Conversely, another recent leak from tipster Kamila Wojciechowski in 2024 claimed that Meta had purportedly resumed in-house smartwatch development, utilizing Android software, a Qualcomm CPU, and an enhanced design.
