Microsoft’s New Xbox Gamepad Cursor Adds a Virtual Mouse to Handhelds

1 Min Read

Microsoft is now testing a virtual mouse cursor within its Xbox mode for Windows handheld devices. The new Gamepad Cursor feature enables users to convert the left stick of a device like the Xbox Ally X into a virtual mouse. Although Asus provides a cursor option through Armory Crate, Microsoft’s Gamepad Cursor is integrated into the Xbox mode in Windows 11 and can be easily activated from the Game Bar. Once activated, the left stick operates as a mouse for precise control or for applications not designed for controllers. The left stick facilitates screen navigation, while the right stick allows for vertical scrolling, and the A button is used for clicking. This becomes especially handy for applications or parts of PC games where default controller navigation isn’t effective. Microsoft is currently testing this feature with Xbox Insiders, and interested users can join the program through the Xbox Insider Hub to try it out before it’s widely released to all Windows 11 users.
