Netflix Launches Standalone App for Kids’ Games

1 Min Read

Netflix has unveiled a new standalone app for children’s games called Netflix Playground. The app, included in a Netflix subscription, is free of ads and in-app purchases. Netflix Playground offers an “ever-growing” library of games for kids, featuring characters from popular children’s shows. It is designed for children aged eight and under and is now available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, with a global rollout set for April 28. The app is accessible on iOS and Android devices and can be used offline, making it ideal for travel.

Games include “Playtime With Peppa Pig” and a “Sesame Street” game, among others such as “Let’s Color,” “Storybots,” and “Bad Dinosaurs.” John Derderian, Netflix Vice President of Animation Series + Kids & Family TV, stated that the app offers an interactive world where kids can engage with their favorite characters. Netflix initially launched games in 2021 but has scaled back its offerings due to a lack of engagement. Several gaming studios, including Boss Fight and Spry Fox, have been closed. Last year, Netflix ventured into TV gaming with party titles and is focusing on cloud gaming, though it remains in the early stages.
