Netflix’s Latest All-Time Blockbuster Films As Apple TV+ Builds Traction

Netflix has introduced its latest all-time favorite film: as of yesterday, KPop Demon Hunters has become the service’s leading title ever. The timing could be especially advantageous for Apple TV+ and its upcoming series KPOPPED.

### Apple’s KPOPPED series might gain from Netflix’s recent success

Yesterday, Netflix declared that KPop Demon Hunters has officially claimed the title of its most watched film ever. The former record holder was Red Notice, which boasted the star power of Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson.

Netflix’s new top film focuses on a vastly different trio: three animated K-pop characters endowed with both singing talent and hidden abilities.

As I compose this article, KPop Demon Hunters has amassed 236 million views—a remarkable figure.

Why does this matter for Apple TV+? Because Apple is coincidentally launching a new K-pop series this week.

KPOPPED premieres **this Friday, August 29** on Apple TV+ with its entire eight-episode season.

The program is a fresh reality series—a category that Apple has largely overlooked, aside from 2023’s My Kind of Country. It is hosted by PSY and Megan Thee Stallion.

Here’s Apple’s official description:

> In each episode, Western stars reimagine one of their greatest hits, teaming up with premier K-pop idols to present spectacular battle performances, with a live audience in Seoul determining the winner of the best new K-popped song.

Reality series frequently achieve immense popularity with other platforms, making Apple’s limited endeavors in this category surprising. However, reality shows may not align with the streamer’s ‘prestige’ image.

My Kind of Country didn’t seem to resonate much with viewers upon its launch. However, Apple TV+ had a comparatively smaller subscriber base at that time.

With the current increased awareness of TV+ and the fortunate timing following KPop Demon Hunters’ triumph, KPOPPED may become a success.

Do you believe Apple TV+ should introduce more reality series, or leave the genre to competing platforms? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Apple TV+ is available for $12.99 monthly and features popular TV shows and films such as Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Silo, and Shrinking.
