Design visuals and pricing information for the Pixel Buds 2a have leaked prior to the launch. The design of the Pixel Buds 2a might resemble that of the Pixel Buds Pro 2, albeit with some modifications to reduce costs. The earbuds may not include Silent Seal 2.0 and wireless charging but could offer Spatial Audio. The expected price for the Pixel Buds 2a in Europe is €149, marking a €50 hike compared to the last generation.
The forthcoming Made by Google event is poised to be significant. In addition to the new Pixel 10 series smartphones, we will see the Pixel Watch 4 featuring an enhanced charging system and a new budget-friendly pair of wireless earbuds from Google.
Previous leaks have hinted at the Pixel Buds 2a, but a fresh leak has provided a more detailed view of their design and at least one pricing region, potentially presenting negative news.
Trustworthy leaker Roland Quandt (via WinFuture) has disclosed what seems to be official renderings of the forthcoming Pixel Buds 2a. The images indicate that Google will adopt a similar design to the more expensive Pixel Buds Pro 2, albeit with some alterations to maintain a lower price point.
The leak indicates that the proximity sensor will be relocated, and the “G” logo will be printed on the exterior rather than engraved as seen on the Pixel Buds Pro 2. While not explicitly stated, the new microphone array also seems to be redesigned, resembling the more premium model’s configuration with the microphones positioned just below the “G” logo.
On a positive note, it appears that Google is retaining the silicone ear tips design, unlike some budget earbuds like the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3, which do not include this feature.
Regarding features, the Pixel Buds 2a will reportedly not support Silent Seal 2.0, but there will be some enhancements to Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). Features such as conversation detection and wireless charging will also be omitted. Reportedly, the battery life will last up to 7 hours for the earbuds, extending to 20 hours with the charging case.
There’s still good news, as Google is expected to introduce Spatial Audio along with head tracking functionality to these economical earbuds—a feature that was absent in the first-generation Pixel Buds A.
However, there might be a drawback in terms of pricing. The Pixel Buds 2a are anticipted to commence at €149 (~$174) in Europe, representing a €50 increase from the previous generation in that market. Information regarding whether this price increase will also be implemented in the U.S. is not yet available, but fortunately, the wait is short, with the Made by Google event just over a week away.
