Nintendo Reduces Switch 2 Production Due to Declining Console Sales

1 Min Read

The output of the Nintendo Switch 2 is being cut from six million to four million units, despite its strong debut. Nintendo has reduced production forecasts due to diminishing demand in the US, as reported by Bloomberg. The production will be scaled back to four million units this quarter instead of the planned six million, with the decrease in output continuing in April, according to unnamed sources. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa had mentioned that international sales were weaker than expected last month. This comes after a record-breaking launch the previous June, making the Switch 2 the fastest-selling console in Nintendo’s history with 3.5 million units sold in the first four days. Despite the production cuts, Nintendo is still on track to meet its target of selling 19 million units by the end of the fiscal year. Rising production costs and consumer demand challenges are factors, along with potential export delays due to conflict in the Middle East, which might lead to increased production to ensure sufficient stock for a battery-replaceable version intended for European sales next year.
