Free-tier users now have access to Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app and Gemini in Chrome.

Google announced on Tuesday that all users in the US will now have access to its Personal Intelligence feature. This feature allows connection to various Google apps to provide context for Gemini’s responses and suggestions. Previously, this feature was limited to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. Now, free-tier users in the US can use Personal Intelligence through AI Mode in Search, Gemini in Chrome, and the Gemini app. However, it’s only available to users on personal Google accounts, excluding business, enterprise, or education users.

Personal Intelligence automatically personalizes Gemini’s responses by using data from connected apps like YouTube, Google Photos, and Gmail, without requiring you to manually add extra context. With this feature, Gemini might offer shopping recommendations or tech troubleshooting advice based on device info. Earlier this year, with personalization, Gemini could analyze interests and make good guesses on what users might like, though it struggled with details.

The feature is opt-in only, allowing users to keep it off if preferred. Google stated that users can disconnect apps from Personal Intelligence anytime, adding that Gemini and AI Mode don’t train directly on Gmail inboxes or Google Photos libraries, only on limited info like specific prompts and responses.
