Like the original Connections, players must discover “common threads between words.” Similar to Wordle, Connections refreshes post-midnight with increasingly difficult word sets, so we’ve provided hints and tips to help overcome obstacles.

Connections: Sports Edition Explained
The NYT’s latest daily word game, developed with The Athletic, tests players’ ability to group four related words. Playable on web browsers and mobile devices, Connections assigns words into four categories. Despite appearing cohesive, there’s one correct answer. Correctly grouping words removes them from the board. Wrong answers count as mistakes, with four allowed per game. Players can reshuffle the board and connections are color-coded, from easiest (yellow) to hardest (purple). Results are shareable on social media.
