Oppo Has Once Again Crafted the Best Foldable Phone

Oppo Has Once Again Crafted the Best Foldable Phone

The Find N6 is now my favorite foldable, mainly because it significantly reduces the crease.

Reasons people shy away from foldable phones often include price, battery life, and camera quality, which manufacturers have balanced to manage the costs of the folding hardware. Issues like durability and size have mostly been resolved, but the crease in the display seemed an unavoidable challenge — until now.

Oppo’s Find N6 claims a “zero-feel” crease, barely noticeable and while it might be a slight exaggeration, the difference is substantial. This is not the only advantage: the Find N6 also features impressive multitasking, a sleek design, stylus support, and robust battery life. The cameras remain a compromise compared to Oppo’s traditional Find X9 models but rival other foldables.

Despite its standout features, the Find N6 is limited in availability, sold only in China, a few Asian countries, and Australia and New Zealand. Its price in Australia is $3,299 AUD, approximately $2,300 USD.

The Find N6 notably tackles the crease issue using 3D liquid printing to fill gaps in the hinge, creating a smoother screen surface. While the crease isn’t completely invisible, it’s minimal compared to other foldables like Honor’s Magic V6 or Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

The perceived importance of the crease varies — some potential buyers are put off by it, while others adjust quickly once using a foldable. Oppo’s refinements may convert more consumers to foldables, similar to a hypothetical Apple foray into the market.

Oppo continues to optimize foldable software, having been praised for superior multitasking in previous models. The Find N6 introduces the capability to manage up to four floating windows, with flexible resizing and positioning, enhancing user experience beyond standard split-screen options.

A new AI Pen stylus, compatible with both screens, accompanies the Find N6, offering standard functions and a unique laser pointer mode. It comes packaged with a charging case for $199 AUD, approximately $140 USD.

The Find N6 is akin to last year’s Find N5, sharing its dimensions while improving on its design. It’s equipped with a seven-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, providing ample power, and includes 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

The 6,000mAh battery offers commendable endurance, commonly reaching bedtime with 50% remaining, even with extensive screen usage. Charging can reach up to 80W with Oppo’s SuperVooc charger, though wireless and universal charging are slower.

Durability is slightly less robust than competitors in terms of dust protection, but water resistance has improved from previous models. The camera system, while good for a foldable, trails behind Oppo’s standard phone offerings, particularly in low-light situations.

Ultimately, if you’re set on a foldable and can access the Find N6, it currently leads the market. Its display quality, battery life, and software are unmatched and could challenge forthcoming products like Apple’s rumored Fold.
