Netflix Unveils New Functionality for Effortless Sharing of Show Clips

### Netflix Launches New Clip Sharing Functionality

The Netflix application has recently unveiled an innovative feature that enables users to choose specific start and end points of a clip, allowing them to share it externally from the app. This represents a significant transformation in the streaming service’s content sharing strategy.

#### The Transformation of Sharing Capabilities

Traditionally, streaming services have been reluctant to adopt sharing functionalities due to fears of piracy. For a long time, even simple actions like taking screenshots were discouraged. Nevertheless, as the digital ecosystem progressed, these companies acknowledged that the potential for a segment of their original content to become viral might outweigh the piracy-related risks.

Consequently, streaming platforms started incorporating tailored sharing functionalities into their applications, with varying levels of success. Netflix, for instance, had previously provided a bookmarking option that permitted users to highlight specific moments in a show or film for easy access, but it did not support sharing.

#### The Latest Clip Functionality

Netflix has now rolled out a dedicated “Clip” feature specifically tailored for sharing. As per the company, when users are streaming content on mobile devices, they can press the ‘Clip’ button when they find a scene they wish to share. This functionality allows users to modify the clip’s duration, tailoring it to their preferences. Once recorded, the clip can be accessed in the ‘My Netflix’ section, where users can revisit or share it when they wish.

Although the clip-sharing process still remains a bit clunky—requiring users to step away from the playback timeline—it signifies advancement in Netflix’s mission to boost user interaction through social sharing.

#### Conclusion

The rollout of the clip sharing capability marks a significant milestone for Netflix, mirroring a wider trend among streaming platforms to adopt sharing as a strategy for content promotion. As users increasingly look for ways to share their favorite scenes, this feature could assist Netflix in creating a more interactive and community-centric viewing environment.

Guide to Making the Most of Gboard’s Newest AI Writing Features on Android Devices

Google Messages — Gboard offers numerous features and continues to attract Google’s focus on enhancing its capabilities. A recent addition is the option to utilize your phone’s AI for text composition. This feature was initially exclusive to Pixel devices but is now being rolled out to additional Android devices with the latest Pixel feature update.

To make use of this new functionality, you’ll need to have the latest Gboard version installed, and even then, it might take several days or weeks before it reaches your device. As of this moment, I have not yet seen the feature on my Galaxy S25 Ultra, though others have spotted it on OnePlus 13. Once it becomes available, you can utilize Gboard’s AI writing tools to check your text for errors, create new renditions of your messages, and more.

Moreover, Google confirms that all processing occurs on your device utilizing Gemini Nano, so privacy concerns are minimized. However, this hasn’t deterred users from speculating about what data Gemini might access in your messages.

How to utilize Gboard’s AI writing tools

To begin using Gboard’s AI writing tools, simply open an app that is compatible with Gboard and then search for the writing tools icon, which resembles a small pencil surrounded by a couple of stars. Tap it again to access the AI writing interface, and it will promptly start offering suggestions for the message in the text area.

From this point, you can choose from a range of styles that you would like the AI to employ, including friendly, emojify, professional, elaborate, and more. There’s also an option to rephrase and proofread

An Examination of Apple’s Endeavors to Launch a Fourth Principal iPhone: Will the iPhone 17 Air Make Its Mark?

At the upcoming ‘Awe Dropping’ Apple Event next week, Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 series. Among the highlights this year will be a brand new model: the iPhone 17 Air. This will be an ultra-slim iPhone designed to completely take the place of the iPhone 16 Plus. However, will this third effort at introducing a fourth iPhone model truly succeed this time?

## An Expanding iPhone Portfolio

Apple has gradually increased the variety within its iPhone lineup. It began with one model annually, transitioned to two annually in 2014 with the release of the iPhone 6 Plus. You could even argue that they began offering two iPhones in 2013 with the iPhone 5c, although that’s debatable as the model didn’t persist.

The momentum escalated in 2017 with the introduction of the iPhone X, which brought forth two significant changes: a third annual iPhone launch, along with a clear distinction between premium and non-premium options. Now we had the standard iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, alongside the premium iPhone X.

A slight shift occurred in 2018 with the introduction of the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR – marking a move to two premium iPhones and one non-premium variant. In 2019, Apple rolled out the ‘Pro’ branding for iPhones, but the overall structure remained unchanged.

In 2020, a significant change took place with the unveiling of the iPhone 12 mini. This marked the beginning of Apple’s quest to develop a fourth mainstream iPhone.

## Apple’s Efforts to Introduce a Fourth Flagship iPhone

I’ve covered a bit of history up to now, so I’ll keep this section short. Apple launched the iPhone 12 mini in 2020, discontinued it two years later due to what seemed to be poor sales, and then rolled out the iPhone 14 Plus. The ‘Plus’ variant endured for three years, slightly longer than the mini, but it is still poised for replacement.

Currently, the iPhone 17 Air appears to be significantly more positioned for success than the iPhone mini and iPhone Plus. It is a distinctly different device, and that may appeal to more buyers. Yet, Apple’s suppliers are not particularly optimistic about the iPhone Air. Right now, approximately 10% of production capacity is allocated to the new ultra-thin model.

For context, both the iPhone mini and iPhone Plus represented about 10% of iPhone sales volume, which indicates suppliers do not expect the iPhone Air to perform significantly better than its predecessors.

It’s easy to see why Apple’s suppliers hold a skeptical view on the new iPhone Air. It will likely have limited battery life and is projected to retail for around $900. With the expected battery life compromise, the allure of owning an ultra-thin phone may not convince consumers, especially when they can opt for a standard iPhone 17 at $100 less or spend $100-200 more for an iPhone 17 Pro.

At the end of the day, consumers appear to favor the standard model and the two Pro versions.

## Conclusion

We will need to see how this unfolds – but it certainly seems as though the four flagship iPhone strategy is not yielding the desired results for Apple. At least, this appears to be the case if we take their suppliers’ sales predictions into account.

In the past, I’ve suggested the possibility of reviving the iPhone mini as part of the ‘e’ iPhone series. I believe situating it just below the iPhone 16e for $499 would be a successful strategy. This isn’t directly related to the four flagship iPhone narrative, though. I simply think it would reflect nicely on the small phone segment.

Hopefully, the iPhone 17 Air will bring about a positive change, giving Apple a robust fourth flagship iPhone in its offerings. If this initiative does not succeed, I have a hunch that we won’t witness another attempt from Apple, at least in the realm of a standard glass sandwich phone. A foldable iPhone, however, could be a potential triumph.

What are your thoughts on the iPhone 17 Air? Will it emerge as Apple’s next major success or yet another minor seller? Share your opinions in the comments.

WSJ Examines Specialized Markets Taking Advantage of Apple Vision Pro’s Debut

The Apple Vision Pro: Targeted Triumph Amid Consumer Hurdles

By this point, you can likely recite it by memory: the hefty cost and insufficiency of applications have undeniably hindered the first Apple Vision Pro. However, it has managed to perform well in specialized markets and applications, according to a new article from the Wall Street Journal.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the immersive sector at all, you’re likely aware that although Google Glass was far from a success, it persisted for years as a hands-free tool in industrial and healthcare settings. The same applies to Microsoft’s HoloLens, which had versions tailored specifically for various industries and was employed by firms such as Toyota, L’Oréal, and NASA, as well as in architecture and healthcare. Admittedly, both offerings were halted in recent years, underscoring the viability of products originally aimed at the wider consumer base, transforming into niche enterprise projects. But let’s set that aside for now.

### The Initial Apple Vision Pro is Traversing an Identical Industrial Route, for Better or Worse

A new article released today by the Wall Street Journal brings to light several markets where the Apple Vision Pro has been thriving and indeed boosting revenues, such as at Lowe’s, where shoppers can see their actual kitchen after a virtual makeover:

“The San Jose store has been utilizing the system for approximately three months. Thus far, customers appreciate it, and it has significantly influenced their purchases. The experience inspires some customers to contemplate more daring design choices. It also aids certain customers in reaching a decision more swiftly, potentially minimizing the need for numerous appointments. And occasionally, contractors bring their own clients to the store to utilize the Vision Pro to facilitate kitchen sales.”

The article also points out a recent collaboration between Apple and French industrial software firm Dassault Systèmes, whose clientele employs its platforms for designing and engineering molecules for drug development, alongside data centers, manufacturing plants, aircraft, and electric vehicles. In February, Apple and Dassault Systèmes introduced the 3DLive App, which has been embraced by companies in the automotive and aerospace fields.

The Wall Street Journal also notes how CAE, a Canadian aviation training organization, has incorporated the Apple Vision Pro, “to enhance pilot training that complements full-motion flight simulator experience necessary for certification and recurrent checks” owing to its high-resolution display and superior audio quality.

Regardless of your opinion on the Apple Vision Pro, the (paywalled) report is intriguing and may be worth your time, despite the point I’m about to make below.

### 9to5Mac’s Perspective

While any tech aficionado may find it enjoyable to discover various applications of cutting-edge technology, especially in markets they are less acquainted with, it is still indicative that the Apple Vision Pro appears to be treading the same path as its now-retired predecessors. Apple itself has been gradually emphasizing showcasing diverse industrial applications for the initial Apple Vision Pro, which is probably all it can do to stimulate demand and deplete its stock to a market that is considerably less sensitive to pricing, while preparing for improved, lighter, and more affordable versions that it hopes will resonate more with the general public.

Ultimately, the shift towards industry isn’t markedly different from transitions to the education sector that we have witnessed with products like the Chromebook or the iPad. The distinction here is that we have yet to observe a success story of a product that ventured into a niche market to protect itself and successfully returned to the wider consumer market to share its narrative.

Over 20 Well-Known Android VPN Applications Share the Same Security Vulnerabilities – Verify If You’re Impacted

A group of security analysts has released a disturbing alert regarding over 20 popular Android VPN applications found on the Google Play Store. The research indicates that three distinct categories of VPN clients available on Google Play utilize the same infrastructures and source code, even though they appear as separate entities in Google’s app marketplace. Moreover, due to these shared characteristics, particularly in the source code, the security experts assert that they all possess the same security vulnerabilities.

This situation raises significant alarms, particularly regarding the lack of transparency connecting more than 20 of the most downloaded VPNs on Google Play. The researchers highlight the concerning fact that these VPNs create an illusion of choice for consumers, presenting themselves as unique, rival VPN services, while, at their core, they are fundamentally identical.

Additionally, all these VPNs share identical security weaknesses. As TechRadar points out, these vulnerabilities enable hackers to more easily decrypt user traffic and execute other attacks, meaning that regardless of the VPN you choose, you still risk exposure to the potential exploitation of these flaws. Some of these applications have even been associated with Russia and China, prompting further worries about their data collection practices involving U.S. citizens.

“Apple TV+’s Overlooked British Crime Drama Series Featuring Doctor Who Celebrity”

Apple TV+ is recognized for a variety of offerings. Touching comedy (“Ted Lasso”), worldwide acclaimed drama (“Slow Horses,” “Pachinko,” “Drops of God”), and speculative fiction (“Foundation,” “Silo,” “Dark Matter”). One domain where the streaming service still has potential to thrive, in my view, is within the realm of gritty crime dramas — which, at first glance, may not seem to align seamlessly with Apple TV+’s objectives. After all, aspects like gun violence, drug trafficking, homicide, and unresolved cases — that appears to be the type of content you’d likely associate more with an HBO suspense series.

However, indeed, one of the standout dramas on Apple TV+ that most likely went unnoticed by a number of subscribers operates within that very genre. “Criminal Record,” featuring Cash Jumbo alongside “Doctor Who’s” Peter Capaldi, is a crime thriller situated in London, presenting two detectives hailing from immensely different backgrounds and even eras (a young-old dynamic is evident) who clash over a cold case that could not only significantly influence their individual careers — but also resurface some long-buried secrets.
