Penemue, a Freiburg-based TrustTech startup, has raised over €1.7 million to advance its AI technology for detecting and combating online hate speech, digital violence, and disinformation. The company, co-founded by Jonas Navid Mehrabanian Al-Nemri, Sara Egetemeyr, and Marlon Lückert, operates in 89 languages and collaborates with public prosecutors, police, and commercial clients. It offers real-time monitoring of social media content, identifying hate speech and threats while allowing users to manage or report issues for legal action. The startup’s clientele includes German Bundesliga clubs, politicians, media houses, and artists across Europe. With a commercial SaaS model, Penemue aims to fulfill compliance mandates under the EU Digital Services Act, driving demand for its platform. The new funding will enhance AI development, expand European and international partnerships, and strengthen cooperation with public institutions. Penemue is supported by Deutsche Telekom’s TechBoost programme and is part of the #NoHateSpeech initiative.
