Sharma will replace Spencer and has been involved with Microsoft’s AI platform since her return in 2024. Spencer will support the transition until summer. In a note to employees, Spencer explained his decision to retire and praised Xbox as a vibrant community deserving of a thoughtful future plan.
Bond’s departure is part of Xbox’s future planning, with or Spencer acknowledging her significant contributions during a pivotal period for Xbox, including expansions and new launches.
Matt Booty is promoted to EVP and chief content officer, acknowledging Spencer’s foundational support in an internal memo.
Spencer has been pivotal in Microsoft’s gaming growth, including leading major acquisitions. Reflecting on his career, Spencer calls it an “epic ride.”
