2 Min Read

The Chinese-owned Swedish automaker plans to reduce expenses by updating two existing models. Polestar will introduce four new electric models in the next three years, including a new SUV and an updated Polestar 2 sedan. Owned by China’s Geely, the automaker will start delivering the Polestar 5 grand tourer this summer, with a new long-roof variant of the Polestar 4 arriving in the fourth quarter. A new successor to the Polestar 2 will begin production in early 2027, and in 2028, a compact premium SUV, the Polestar 7, will be released. Following strong sales growth in 2025, with full-year sales reaching around 60,119 cars, a 34% increase over 2024, the company reported a net loss of $1.558 billion despite a revenue increase. Geely continues to support Polestar with equity investments and loan guarantees, and Polestar hopes these redesigned models will sustain sales growth while minimizing losses. The Polestar 5 features a range of 460 miles, 800-volt architecture, 884 horsepower, and acceleration from 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds, with a price exceeding $120,000. The Polestar 4 is being reimagined for European customers as an estate car, combining the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV. Polestar is accelerating the next-gen Polestar 2’s market release by 2027. Finally, the Polestar 7 SUV will compete in Europe’s compact SUV segment, aiming to provide a performance-driven car at a competitive price.
