Amazon First Reads is a monthly program offering eight editor-selected books free to Prime members. Members choose one book per month to add to their library. Non-Prime members can purchase books for $1.99 each.

Which books are featured in Amazon First Reads?

Each month, Amazon’s book editors select eight books across various genres. Many featured books are new or upcoming releases, some exclusive to Amazon’s publishing imprints.

April 2026 Amazon First Reads books

April’s First Reads lineup includes eight novels, a children’s picture book, and a short read. This month’s short read, “Lift Me Up,” is a workplace romance by Sunday Times bestselling author Milly Johnson. It is described as “A pitch-perfect love story for fans of Jenny Colgan, Debbie Macomber, and Katie Fforde,” by Maisie Lawrence, an Amazon book editor. Titles include “Kimi the BALLerina,” a children’s picture book by Korey Watari and Mike Wu, a former Pixar artist.

Do you need a Kindle for Amazon First Reads?

Books are purchased through the Kindle Store, but you don’t need a Kindle to read them. Books are available in the Kindle app, which can be used on smartphones, tablets, or computers. If considering an e-reader, Kindle is a top choice.
