Prices are increasing by more than $100 in some instances due to the impact of AI.
As of today, the price for the 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 is rising by $100, almost the same as its original $120 price. This is due to the ongoing RAM shortage, prompting Raspberry Pi to increase prices on over a dozen of its computers, following earlier hikes in December and February. These increases range from $11.25 to $150.
Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton reassured in a blog post that these price hikes aren’t permanent, stating, “The circumstances we face are challenging, but they will improve. Once they do, we will revert our price hikes, and until then, we will strive to minimize their impact.”
To ease the impact of these hikes, Raspberry Pi introduced a new Raspberry Pi 4 with 3GB RAM, available today for $83.75. Models with 4GB or more have been most affected by memory price spikes. Upton clarified that this isn’t an April Fools’ joke, noting, “Despite today’s date, our new computer is as legitimate as our other products.”
