Raycast’s Glaze: An All-in-One Vibe Coding App Platform

Vibe coders are targeting the App Store with small tools. Thanks to AI tools like Claude Code, software can be created by users without coding skills. However, understanding computer terminals and software deployment is necessary. Raycast, a launcher popular with Mac users, aims to simplify this with Glaze, which enables users to build, share, and discover new vibe-coded software. While it’s currently for Mac, plans are in place for Windows and mobile versions.

“Glaze is our take on personal computing,” says Raycast co-founder Thomas Paul Mann. The app allows users to build utilities or specific apps for team needs, browse others’ apps, and customize them.

The process in Glaze is simple: users type a prompt, and the tool creates an app. It uses Claude Code and Codex as underlying models. The goal is to allow users to prompt anything without needing to delve into code. Glaze manages cloud storage, design basics, APIs, and integrations.

Mann demonstrated apps like emoji generators, spending trackers, and meeting recorders. Glaze apps follow Apple’s Liquid Glass rules and have retro icons, listed under “My Projects.”

Though not a Raycast feature, Glaze is integrated with the launcher, enabling Raycast to manage apps across platforms.

Glaze’s simplicity raises questions about app ownership and functionality. Mann is uncertain about pricing or the target audience, but expects simple, single-user tools to be prevalent.

Raycast aims for ambitious changes in software distribution, envisioning a “iTunes moment” for apps, potentially challenging Mac and Windows App Stores.
