Report: Apple Maps Could Introduce Ads by This Summer

1 Min Read

Rumors of ads in Apple Maps have surfaced before, but this time seems different. According to Alex Perry of Mashable, Apple Maps could soon feature advertisements. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple plans to introduce ads in the Maps app on iPhones this summer, with an announcement expected this month. Instead of pop-up ads, there might be “sponsored search results,” so users could see ads for specific restaurants or services like Uber Eats during a search. The idea was mentioned in a previous report and seems likely to happen soon. Apple Maps ads could work similarly to Google Maps ads, with advertisers bidding on terms like “coffee” or “thai food.”

No one enjoys when an ad-free app starts showing ads, but to be fair, Google Maps has used sponsored search results for years and remains a popular choice. Users tend to tolerate non-intrusive ads if the app functions well, though Apple Maps has had issues before. However, social media reactions to the idea are cold. Perhaps people are just weary of advertisements everywhere.

Another reason for user discontent might be Apple’s record iPhone sales in 2026, with high demand noted by Tim Cook.
