Apple is transforming Siri into an app. Apple’s smart assistant, traditionally accessible via button or voice command, is evolving into a standalone app with the upcoming iOS 27, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The new standalone Siri app will feature an “Ask Siri” function across Apple apps.
The goal is to make Siri, codenamed Campo, more interactive, akin to chatbots like those from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, which operate as standalone apps. Users will be able to engage with Siri through text and voice interactions, similar to ChatGPT or Claude. Siri will utilize personal data such as messages, emails, and notes for fulfilling requests, executing tasks within apps, searching the web, and accessing news.
Apple plans to introduce these features at the WWDC keynote on June 8, where “AI advancements” on Apple platforms will be discussed, although details are sparse. Initially, Apple did not plan to make Siri a chatbot with its own app, preferring integration into existing apps and services. However, the rise of chatbots on Android from companies like Google and Samsung prompted Apple to reconsider and develop a standalone Siri app.
