According to Semafor, PayPal is reportedly not considering an acquisition, based on information from sources familiar with the situation.
Bloomberg previously reported that Stripe showed interest in acquiring parts or all of PayPal Holdings, including PayPal’s main service and companies like Venmo. Stripe has not commented on these reports.
Semafor’s unnamed sources indicate that Stripe has been collaborating with bankers to prepare for a potential activist investor campaign or hostile takeover. These bankers were working with Alex Chriss, PayPal’s now-replaced CEO. PayPal announced that a new CEO will start next week.
TechCrunch reached out to PayPal for a comment but received no response.
