According to a report in Bloomberg, PlayStation is shifting its focus back to console exclusives by moving away from porting PS5 games to PC. This decision includes canceling plans for a PC version of Ghost of Yōtei. This marks a significant change from Sony’s earlier goal of having half of its games available on PC and mobile by 2025. Some major franchises like The Last of Us, Horizon, and God of War have already been released on PC, and this month will see the launch of PC titles such as Marathon and Death Stranding 2. However, PlayStation ports did not perform well in sales, possibly prompting this shift. The move aligns with a traditional publishing strategy, using exclusives to attract people to their consoles, similar to Nintendo’s approach. Meanwhile, Microsoft has been adopting a multiplatform strategy with Xbox, which has led to a somewhat unclear brand vision. Sony may be trying to prevent a similar outcome with PlayStation by refocusing on exclusives.
