### M4 Ultra Poised for Launch in Apple’s Upcoming Mac Pro Revision
Apple has been speculated to be working on a new Mac Pro, and a recent article indicates it will feature a more robust chip than previously encountered: the M4 Ultra.
Earlier this year, Apple was anticipated to release two pro-oriented hardware updates: a new Mac Studio and the next-generation Mac Pro. The Mac Studio debuted in March, but no news regarding a new Mac Pro has surfaced since. Now, a report from Macworld implies that the delay is due to a completely new chip that remains under development.
Internal codes released by Apple, which Macworld has accessed, confirm that Apple is still testing a new, premium Mac Pro powered by an yet-to-be-released M4 Ultra chip. The findings specify the internal identifier t8152, which aligns with the “M4 Ultra” naming and is also known by the codename “Hidra.” The inclusion of the M4 Ultra in the Mac Pro helps clarify the product’s postponed launch.
When Apple introduced its new Mac Studio, it caught many off guard by offering M3 and M4 variants. Interestingly, the M4 Max is, in numerous aspects, the less powerful choice, while the upsell provides an M3 Ultra. The lack of an M4 Ultra marked a notable moment as Apple released a new product featuring two distinct generations of chips. Some speculated this indicated that Apple would not produce an Ultra chip for the M4 series, but it appears that the chip is simply taking longer to develop than expected.
An M4 Ultra would undoubtedly provide the new Mac Pro a significant advantage over the Mac Studio, addressing the issue of limited differentiation between the two models. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if Apple begins offering an M4 Ultra Mac Studio once the chip makes its debut in the Mac Pro.
