Reports Emphasize Android Auto’s ‘Unresponsive’ Problems Impacting Pixel 10 Release

Google’s newest flagship lineup, the Pixel 10, is facing difficulties with Android Auto connectivity as it becomes available to customers. Users are indicating that the connection is “unresponsive,” with screen updates happening only every five minutes, resulting in freezing and non-updating visual components. Google is conscious of the issue, as a member of the Android Team has replied to a support thread asking for additional information.

Customers who pre-ordered the Pixel 10 have turned to the Google Pixel subreddit to voice their concerns. One user mentioned that their Pixel 10 and Android Auto were “extremely unresponsive,” with rare screen updates. Another user described similar problems in their 2018 Chevy, where Android Auto freezes, though the display buttons function properly. Interestingly, the Pixel 10 Pro XL operates without problems on a 2023 Mitsubishi, just like a Pixel 7 Pro.

A Google Support forum thread reflects these concerns, with users reporting that their phone is detected by the car but the screen remains grey with an Android Auto logo watermark. Attempts to fix the issue by clearing cache, app data, and even carrying out a factory reset have not succeeded.

The reason behind these issues is unclear, with some users facing troubles with both USB and wireless connections. Google’s Android Team is informed about the problem, and a patch is expected, possibly in September, to tackle the widespread issue impacting the Pixel 10 series.

This is not the first instance in which Pixel users have encountered Android Auto problems. The Pixel 9 series faced similar issues last year, including stuttering audio and connectivity challenges. Google had previously recommended that users stay on Android Auto v13.3 to prevent issues. The Pixel 7 and 6 series also dealt with connectivity problems in 2023, which were temporarily resolved by restarting or clearing caches.
