Rivian’s new R2 model, a midsize electric SUV, is being introduced in three trims, with the Performance version priced at $59,485. It features 656 horsepower, a 330-mile range, and a rapid acceleration of 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Its release is expected in spring 2026, while the base model, initially highlighted for its $45,000 price point, will debut in late 2027. The R2 Performance trim includes various standard features and enhanced driving modes, while the Premium version, priced at $55,485, and the Standard Long Range trim, at $49,985, offer slightly different specifications. Despite intending for affordability, Rivian’s CEO, RJ Scaringe, suggests most purchases will exceed the base price. The R2 seeks to compete in the growing midsize SUV market, promising advanced technology and design. However, customer anticipation for affordable versions remains high. Rivian plans to ship 20,000-25,000 units before 2027, confident in meeting consumer demands despite the later release of the base model.
