Samsung is said to be preparing to optimize the charging features of its forthcoming foldable smartphones, as indicated by recent regulatory submissions. The next iteration, Galaxy Z Fold 8, along with the new Wide Fold, is expected to offer 45W fast charging, representing the first notable upgrade in charging speed for Samsung’s foldables in almost six years. This update follows the recent enhancement in charging speed for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which upgraded from 45W to 60W. Nevertheless, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to retain its existing 25W charging speed, suggesting no improvements for Samsung’s clamshell foldable this year.
This information was discovered through entries on China’s 3C certification website, a typical precursor to smartphone releases, which disclosed model numbers and possible charging details. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also rumored to come equipped with a larger 5000mAh battery, an increase from the 4400mAh battery found in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This combination of a larger battery and quicker charging may position Samsung’s foldables more favorably in the market.
While the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Wide Fold are poised to gain from these enhancements, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 continues to remain stable concerning charging speed. Samsung’s move to increase charging speeds corresponds with its recent initiative to boost battery performance across its devices, potentially hinting at further advancements on the horizon.
