This idea is akin to how the Galaxy S Pen charges when secured within Samsung’s Galaxy Note or Galaxy Z Fold devices. The patent diagrams illustrate a ring resting on a peg-like feature on the smartphone’s back, which would conduct power via contact pins. This development could remove the necessity for a distinct charging case, enhancing user convenience.

Functionality Beyond Charging

In addition to charging, the patent alludes to extra capabilities. When docked, the Galaxy Ring could transmit health and fitness metrics directly to the smartphone. This would streamline the syncing process and may minimize reliance on continuous Bluetooth connectivity, which often drains battery on both devices.
