Samsung Discontinues Galaxy Z TriFold After Three Months

No more restocks are expected; once it sells out, it’s over.

Samsung will discontinue its first three-panel foldable phone just three months post-launch in the US. The $2,899 Galaxy Z TriFold will phase out in Korea, followed by the US, as confirmed by a Samsung spokesperson to Bloomberg.

Korean media outlet Dong-A Ilbo reported a final domestic restock today, March 17th. Samsung’s site earlier stopped updating restock info for the foldable, now marked “sold out” in the US.

Available only through Samsung, about 6,000 units of the phone have sold in Korea since its debut on December 12th. Conversely, Huawei’s second-gen trifold phone remains China-exclusive after the original Mate XT Ultimate’s broader release.

Some buyers have found the foldable in Samsung Experience Stores in Texas and New York, per Bloomberg, but US online stock is dwindling. Once depleted, third-party resellers or used options are the only sources for the Galaxy Z TriFold. Beware — our attempt to secure one on eBay was unsuccessful.

High production costs drive the decision, with rising component prices making profits elusive even with ongoing sales. In a Bloomberg interview last month, Samsung’s mobile chief Won-Joon Choi stated no plans for a TriFold successor, though its larger display and wider aspect ratio might feature in future Samsung foldables.
