Samsung Evaluating Perplexity AI Instead of Google’s Gemini for Galaxy S26 Series

New AI collaborations indicate significant changes in Samsung’s mobile approach.

What you need to understand:
– Samsung is thinking about substituting or supplementing Gemini with Perplexity AI on upcoming Galaxy devices, potentially beginning with the Galaxy S26 series.
– The integration may involve Perplexity’s application, search capabilities in Samsung’s browser, and enhanced features for Bixby.
– Samsung’s rumored potential investment in Perplexity’s funding round suggests a deeper strategic alliance beyond just software integration.

Samsung has been placing considerable focus on AI within its Galaxy smartphones over the last few years. While it has been merging Galaxy AI with Gemini’s features, it seems the company could also be exploring additional avenues for future Galaxy devices.

A recent Bloomberg article by Mark Gurman reveals that Samsung is negotiating to finalize a deal with Perplexity AI. According to sources familiar with the situation, the two companies are discussing the inclusion of Perplexity’s application alongside its AI assistant in the upcoming Galaxy devices.

Moreover, Perplexity’s search functionalities are expected to be integrated into Samsung’s Internet browser app as soon as the ongoing deal is settled. In addition, the well-known Bixby virtual assistant is anticipated to utilize Perplexity’s technology as part of the integration.

Beyond the ongoing negotiations, the report also highlights Samsung’s plans to announce the Perplexity integration as soon as this year, with the new Perplexity potentially replacing or serving as an alternative to the default Gemini assistant in the Galaxy S26 series if everything goes as planned.

While the specifics are intriguing, the Bloomberg report also indicates that these arrangements are not yet finalized and may evolve by the official announcement. Conversely, Samsung is also anticipated to be a key investor in the new funding round for Perplexity, the report suggests.

We initially observed Perplexity’s integration as an alternative to Google Gemini in recent Motorola devices. Although talks with Samsung were also revealed back in April, it appears that progress is being made with Samsung for the forthcoming Galaxy lineup. It is promising to see AI alternatives in upcoming Android smartphones instead of being confined to a single AI assistant ecosystem.

Motorola’s integration of Perplexity also included the AI assistant’s Pro features for the Razr and Edge 60 devices for a limited time, and a similar strategy is expected for Samsung smartphones as well.
