Essential information

  • Accompanying Samsung’s major summer Unpacked event, Google is announcing upgrades to AI features for a wider audience of Android users.
  • Circle to Search on Android introduces a gaming mode that aids users in identifying items/characters in mobile games, as well as an AI Mode for queries.
  • Gemini Live incorporates foldable functionality, initiating with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, allowing users access to AI via the cover display.
  • Wear OS is now compatible with Gemini, starting with the Galaxy Watch 8 series, then expanding to Pixel Watches, OPPO, Xiaomi, and OnePlus devices.

Samsung has once again allied with Google for Gemini’s intelligence, while Google emphasizes substantial updates coming for all Android users.

Initially, Google announces via a press release that today’s significant Gemini updates feature enhancements to Circle to Search. In a bid to facilitate easier searches on your device’s display, Google is integrating AI Mode into Circle to Search. The announcement indicates that AI Mode’s inclusion should simplify inquiries about “complex topics” and allow for follow-up question capabilities.

Assistance from AI Mode is fully managed through your Circle to Search interface, eliminating the need to switch to a different app (such as the main Google app) for information. AI Mode is also being rolled out for queries via Google Lens on iOS and Android. Google notes that when a Search response is displayed, scroll down to discover “dive deeper with AI Mode.” Users can effortlessly ask follow-up questions or simply “explore more about your visual search.”
