Snap is set to launch the newest version of its AR glasses, Specs, later this year. Despite the significance of this hardware product, the company recently lost a top executive associated with the project following a reported dispute with Snap CEO Evan Spiegel.
Originally reported by the tech blog Sources, Scott Myers, Snap’s SVP of Specs, reportedly left the company after a disagreement with Spiegel.
A Snap spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that Myers decided to leave his position, thanking him for his contributions and wishing him well. While disputing the “blow-up” description, the spokesperson did not provide additional details on Myers’ departure.
The spokesperson stated, “We can’t wait to bring Specs to the world later this year. We remain focused on disciplined execution and long-term value creation for our developer partners, community, and shareholders.”
The specifics of Myers’ departure, including the timing and details of the alleged “blow-up,” remain unclear. When a user on X inquired about the dispute’s nature, Sources author Alex Heath mentioned it was about “strategy” but didn’t provide further information.
Snap has long teased the commercial release of Specs and recently indicated a serious commitment to launching the product. In January, the company established Specs as a standalone subsidiary, Specs Inc., to enhance operational focus and alignment.
Myers joined Snap in 2020 after roles at SpaceX, Apple, and Nokia, according to his LinkedIn profile. In a summer interview with Tom’s Guide, Myers described the Specs development process as an “entirely new paradigm” and highlighted the challenges of achieving the right form factor. “I don’t want to see people wearing a wire coming out of the back of their head,” he remarked.
