Snapchat unveiled on Wednesday that it will hold its inaugural awards show, “The Snappys,” on March 21. This event aims to honor “the creators shaping culture on Snapchat.” Awards will include titles such as “Spotlight MVP,” “Best Storyteller,” and “Breakout Creator of the Year,” covering categories like fashion, beauty, sports, music, food, and games, along with collaboration, comedy, and cultural impact.

“These honors showcase the ways creators spark conversations, build community, and define culture on Snapchat,” the company stated in a blog post. “The Snappys reinforces our commitment to celebrating creators as artists, entertainers, and cultural leaders.”

Snapchat joins other social media platforms in launching creator awards. Last October, Instagram introduced a “Ring” award for global creators, giving 25 winners a custom-designed ring and a digital golden ring on their profiles. In November, TikTok initiated its first U.S. awards show, distributing accolades like “Creator of the Year” and “Video of the Year” and holding similar events in Germany, Mexico, and Korea.

Snapchat’s awards align with TikTok’s format, hosting a live event to announce winners. Notable participants include DJ Khaled, who will receive Snapchat’s “Lifetime Achievement Award.” These events position Snapchat and its competitors as significant entities in the entertainment industry, beyond just social media platforms.

“The Snappys” will be hosted by comedian Matt Friend at Snapchat’s Santa Monica headquarters. More details, including nominee lists, will be announced soon.
