Sony to Close Studio Behind Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus Remakes

1 Min Read

In 2021, Sony acquired Bluepoint Games, a studio known for successful game remakes such as “Shadow of the Colossus” and “Demon’s Souls.” However, after a recent business review, Sony has decided to close the studio in March, resulting in the layoff of about 70 employees. Despite their technical prowess and contributions to multiple PlayStation franchises, including remasters of the first three “Uncharted” titles and “Gravity Rush,” Bluepoint Games’ last project involved co-developing “God of War: Ragnarok” in 2022. They had been working on a live-service “God of War” game that was eventually canceled by Sony. This closure is part of a larger trend, as Sony has also shuttered other studios, including Firewalk Studios and mobile studio Neon Koi, and Bungie laid off 220 employees in 2024.
