There has been an abundance of diverse speculation surrounding Apple’s upcoming generation of spatial computers. Is Apple focusing on a more affordable model, or fully committing to a second generation Pro model? We will consolidate all of the Vision headset rumors here today.
## Vision Pro Successor
A second generation of Vision Pro is on the horizon, although it may not align with what most anticipated.
Early speculation regarding Apple Vision Pro 2 hinted at an upgrade in specifications, with the device transitioning from an M2 chip to an M5 chip. This product was expected to debut within the next year or so, with late 2025 to early 2026 being the broadly circulated timeline.
However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has recently indicated that Apple is adopting a different strategy for Apple Vision Pro 2, presenting the device as more of a companion to a Mac rather than an independent product:
> Instead, it’s now focusing on a Vision Pro that integrates with a Mac. The distinction between the two concepts is the degree of immersion. The abandoned device featured transparent lenses; the product currently under development will employ a similar method to the Vision Pro.
The aim is to establish a system with ultra-low latency for streaming a user’s Mac display or connecting to advanced enterprise applications.
Previously, Apple was developing a version of augmented reality glasses that would connect to a Mac, and it appears the company is now attempting to revive that previously shelved product in the form of a headset.
This headset will feature ultra-low latency, making it ideal for “streaming a user’s Mac display or for connecting to high-end enterprise applications.” Gurman points out that certain high-end Vision Pro applications involve flight simulations and surgeon overlays, and Apple intends to delve further into this sector.
## Long-Rumored Vision Air
Speculation about a more affordable Vision Pro has been circulating since the product’s release, likely even before it hit the market. We’ve been hearing about a purported Vision Air product aimed at reducing both weight and cost for quite a while now.
In recent months, there has been an increase in information, and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman affirms that Apple is indeed developing a lighter and less expensive Vision Pro. Nevertheless, he mentions that tariffs may complicate efforts to lower prices.
Gurman doesn’t offer much insight into how Apple plans to achieve a lighter and more affordable model, although he does indicate that Apple aims to address neck strain concerns.
While the details remain somewhat vague, it seems that the “Vision Air” product will serve as the direct successor to Vision Pro, expected to launch in late 2025 to early 2026. It appears that the Vision Pro replacement will come later, concentrating more on enterprise applications.
Last month, we encountered some component leaks from Vision Air, showcasing a black color scheme. This could imply that the late 2025 to early 2026 timeline for Vision Air is indeed plausible.
## Glasses
Although AR glasses aren’t imminent, Apple CEO Tim Cook is reportedly “determined” to outpace Meta in launching a pair of industry-leading AR glasses.
In the meantime, it is known that Apple is developing a set of smart glasses. Envision something akin to Meta Ray-Bans, but with an Apple touch. They’ll be lightweight glasses equipped with cameras, speakers, and microphones, but without displays – making them ideal for engaging with AI. According to Gurman, such a product is expected to launch in 2026.
Hopefully, by that time, Siri and Apple Intelligence will be fully prepared.
