Spotify announced today the expansion of its AI-driven feature, Prompted Playlist, to include podcasts. Initially tested in New Zealand last year for music playlists, the feature launched this year in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and Sweden. Now, premium users in these regions can create AI-assisted podcast playlists in English. Users can tap “Create,” then choose “Prompted Playlists” to design personalized playlists by entering prompts like “Make a playlist of True Crime podcasts I would be interested in. Add highly rated series I might have missed, especially ones full of twists and turns.”
Users can set playlist update frequencies to daily, weekly, or not at all. Each added episode will include a note explaining its playlist inclusion. Lizzy Hale, Spotify’s Global Head of Podcast Editorial, stated that this feature simplifies discovery for listeners and enhances visibility for creators’ existing and new content.
Spotify revealed that over 34 million podcasts are newly discovered each week on its platform, and this updated feature aims to boost that number. Users may also see Prompted Playlists curated by Spotify’s culture team on their home screens, customizable by adjusting the prompt.
As part of its podcast adaptation efforts, Spotify previously eased monetization criteria for video podcasts. Now, creators need three published episodes, 2,000 consumption hours in the past 30 days, and 1,000 engaged listeners to qualify. According to co-CEO Alex Norström during the Q4 2025 earnings call, over 530,000 video podcasts are available on Spotify.
